BHOPAL MAHOTSAV


The Bhopal Mahotsav was introduced and organized by the M.P. Tourism, teaming up with M.P. State Handicrafts during January or February each year to host this expansive event at Gohar Mahal. Bhopal Mahotsav contains a fantastic Food Festival, many cultural performances from various tribal artists, and a creative Craft Fair. The event is full of activities such as pottery workshops, theatrical plays, and music and folk dance. Highlights of Bhopal Mahotsav are food festival, crafts mela and cultural performances by tribal artists.

TAJ MAHAL, BHOPAL

Taj Mahal (Palace) of Bhopal was built by Shah Jahan Begum in (1868 – 1901) the daughter of Nawab Jehangir Mohammad Khan and Sikandar Jahan Begum of Bhopal. Taj Mahal is situated near the famous Taj ul Masajid of Bhopal.















Shah Jehan Begum wanted the same glory for herself as Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. So, she named this palace the ‘Taj Mahal’. Its construction was started in 1871 and was completed in thirteen years in 1874 for a cost of Three million Rupees. Interestingly, in 1949, this palace served as a shelter to thousands of riot victims and migrants of India Pakistan partition from Sindh and Punjab for many years.
































The palace has 120 rooms and eight large halls. The large entrance of this six storied building and the main lobby are huge and spacious in order to accommodated horse driven carriages inside the palace. The ‘Sawan Bhado’ pavilion in the main courtyard of the palace is an attempted remake of a similar pavilion in the Shalimar Bagh in Kashmir. Here, artificial nozzles with underground water supply were mounted inside walls for spraying cold water in hot summer afternoons.

GINNORGARH FORT, BHOPAL


Ginnorgarh Fort is 61 Km far from Bhopal and it situated at a distance of 3 km from Delawadi. Situated in a lovely forest, Delawadi is a beautiful picnic spot situated among lush green forest and amazing natural beauty. 

Tourists can enjoy trekking, camping and bird watching in the area. The historical fort standing on an isolated hill about 1,127 metres long and 266 metres. Broad is situated 3 km away from Delawadi. 

The fort was once a stronghold of Gonds, but fell to Mohammad of the Bhopal State. One important attraction of Ginnorgarh fort is the 5 floor pond (Bawdi in Hindi). Buses ply the route, but from Delawadi to the fort one have to travel on foot.  

BHOPAL NATIONAL SAILING CLUB- BOAT CLUB BHOPAL

Bhopal naturally posses one of the best boating facilities in the country, Boat Clubs at both lower and upper lake are the center of attraction and one can easily take a pleasure ride in cool cozy environs. In the vicinity of the Upper Lake, is the boat club run by MP Tourism with a large fleet of boats –Cruise Boats, rowboats, pedal boats, sailboats and motorboats. So take your pick and spend a while boating on the placid waters of the lake.



The government has also established India’s first National Sailing Club at the Boat Club, in the Upper Lake. This club offers various water sports such as kayaking, canoeing, rafting, water skiing, para-sailing etc. Since its inception, it has hosted Canoeing and Kayaking Championships at national as well as international levels. Bhopal naturally posses one of the best boating facilities in the country, Boat Clubs at both lower and upper lake are the center of attraction and one can easily take a pleasure ride in cool cozy environs. Other adventure sports include parasailing, paragliding, hot air ballooning etc.


September, October and November are the best months to visit Bhopal. With the monsoons setting in, the light drizzles and the greenery make for a perfect scenic journey for the lover of boating.

BIRLA MUSEUM, BHOPAL, MADHYA PRADESH

Birla Museum, Bhopal is an archaeological museum established in 1971 and is one of its kinds among the various museums of Bhopal. The rich culture and heritage and its various aspects get manifested in the Birla Museum in Bhopal which occupies a significant place among the monuments and museums in Bhopal. Stone sculptures, terracottas, manuscripts and paintings are displayed in this museum. 

The various objects that are exhibited in the museum date from the primitive period onwards. There are primitive tools and implements that were used during the Paleolithic and Neolithic period which are also on display. A marvelous scale model of the Bhimbetka rock shelter with its ancient murals is surely going to astound the onlookers with its divine appeal. The tourists interested in archaeology can also observe the stone sculptures that date from the 7th to 13th century collected from the various archaeological sites. Coins and manuscripts and Terracotta belonging to 2nd century BC to the 6th century AD are also exhibited.
